The 29,513 locals enjoy every corner of the 14.63 square miles of Anderson. It’s a wonderful place to retire, but also a great area to start a family!
History
Revolutionary War General, Robert Anderson, was friends with Andrew Pickens of Pickens County and came to South Carolina from Virginia to survey some land. This land is now the city of Anderson and was officially founded in 1826.
It progressed to become the first city in the South to completely run on electricity – hence its nickname, the “Electric City.” It also proudly ran the only electric cotton gin in the world.
Scenery
Anderson exists in the Piedmont Plateau region of the state, renowned for being one of the most visually and agriculturally attractive locations in the country. The fertile farmlands are stunning and the cityscape at the heart of the county has a well-developed infrastructure.
Lake Hartwell lies to the West and will take you out of the life of a busy city and into the soothing, relaxed nature of the lake lifestyle. The lake is an angler’s paradise and Lake Hartwell is stocked with a wide variety of fish species and plenty of them. It also beckons you to take your family out on the boat on a hot, sunny summer day, or break out the kayak for a fun-filled day of outdoor recreation.
You’ll also find Rocky River Nature Park a lovely place to explore. It’s a 400-acre park just outside the city with alluring natural beauty and the biggest swamp in the upstate. There are areas to enjoy for walking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, bird-watching, and even horseback riding! There’s also an environmental education facility to teach visitors about the flora and fauna and all the natural diversity the park has to offer.
Community
Anderson locals welcome new residents and tourists alike with open arms and southern charm. One of the main events every spring is the Anderson County Fair, attracting people from all over the upstate. It provides everything you’d expect of a great fair – rides for all ages and thrill levels, fair food galore, and fun activities like pig racing and a petting zoo.
The Anderson community celebrates food as an important part of its culture. The city streets have smaller shops for quick bites as well as excellent restaurants for either an enjoyable family evening out or a more intimate date night with your significant other. If you’re more inclined to familiarize yourself with great beer, the Carolina Bauernhaus brews tasty, unique beers in a friendly atmosphere. These are the kinds of places Anderson locals gather to live, laugh, and love.
Anderson is a city full of life and friendly people. It’s growing more and more every year and plenty of gorgeous real estate in both urban and suburban categories is available at affordable prices. This is a city of hospitality and excitement with an electric and infectious energy!
