History
Founded in the late 19th century, Pelzer was a mill town developed by Pelzer Manufacturing Company, which found much success through its use of generators made by General Electric. In fact, it was the first town to use these generators provided by the General Electric Company. The Pelzer Manufacturing Company was also the first factory in the country to use incandescent lighting.
Scenery
The Saluda River is without a doubt a beautiful body of water and flows directly through Pelzer. Tubing down the river is one of the most refreshing and relaxing things to do in the summer. Fishing and kayaking are also fun recreational activities many people in the area take part in.
Many parts of this area are untouched forests with rocky outcroppings and fertile soils. There’s never a shortage of natural beauty in this region of the upstate, known as the Piedmont region. The soothing stretches of farmland and scenic landscapes of the foothills with a distant Appalachian Mountain backdrop attract many people to this area to both visit and make a permanent residence.
Community
The community of Pelzer takes advantage of the beautiful land they have as their home, especially the farmers. Happy Cow Creamery is the local dairy farm that people from all over the upstate come to visit. You can pet their happy, grass-fed cows or visit their shop and buy some of their delicious, fresh milk. They make some of the best chocolate milk you’ll ever taste! Once you explore their store, you’ll find a delightful supply of quality dairy products and definitely want to take some home with you.
Another lovely outdoor establishment the community is welcome to indulge in is the City Scape Winery. They offer tastings in the picturesque vineyard and host live music events. The community comes here to share meaningful conversation, delicious wine, and the joy that comes from being together.
The Mill Town Players is a performing arts center in Pelzer that the community also loves being involved in. Well-produced and highly entertaining shows are put on here to inspire and enrich the community. And the shows are always high quality and affordable for anyone to enjoy.
