History

The history of Fair Play is deeply rooted in Christianity and a community of faith. Established in 1833, it was allegedly named after two pioneers engaged in an argument that quickly escalated to the point where someone had to yell, “Play fair!” Since then, its townspeople used that event as an example of how they wanted their community to be represented as a place of good faith, harboring people with harmonious relationships. In 1980, the Fair Play Camp School was founded. It became a safe place for local youth with difficult pasts and behavioral issues to gather and grow together through a shared love of God. 

Scenery

Fair Play is largely known for its scenic views of Lake Hartwell and the multiple picturesque parks in the area. There’s Lake Hartwell State Park, Tugaloo State Park, and the Fair Play Recreation Area, all of which provide great opportunities for outdoor activities such as fishing, kayaking, and boating.
